Governor Spencer J. Cox Declares Oct. 2, 2023, as Domestic Violence Awareness Day in Utah

 

SALT LAKE CITY – Oct. 2, 2023

In a significant step towards addressing the critical issue of domestic violence in Utah, Governor Spencer J. Cox has joined hands with Altabank™and local organizations committed to serving those affected by domestic violence to declare October 2, 2023, as Domestic Violence Awareness Day in Utah. This proclamation underscores the urgent need to raise awareness, promote prevention, and support victims and survivors of domestic violence across the state.

 

As Domestic Violence Awareness Month runs through October, Altabank reaffirms its commitment to combating this issue. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 33.6 percent of Utah women and 21.4 percent of Utah men experience intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking in their lifetimes. On a national level, one in three women and one in four men in the United States have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner.

 

"Domestic violence affects the lives of too many individuals and families across our great state,” said Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox. “By declaring Oct. 2, 2023, as Domestic Violence Awareness Day in Utah, we can shine a light on the importance of awareness, prevention, and support.
